Nelly Furtado at her best

Nelly Furtado’s Musings on Creativity, and ADHD Diagnosis!

Nelly Furtado, the Canadian artist famed for hits like “I’m Like A Bird” and “Promiscuous,” is gearing up to drop the much-awaited sequel to her 2017 album, ‘The Ride.’ It’s been a minute since we’ve heard a full-length record from her, but if her chat with Euphoria is anything to go by, we’re in for something special. Furtado’s diving back into the music scene with what sounds like a blend of the familiar and the totally new, and she’s mixing in a fair bit of Spanish to spice things up this time.

What’s super interesting about this album is it’s the first she’s putting out since finding out she has ADHD. Turns out, Furtado sees this not as a setback but as something that turbocharges her creativity, especially in the studio. She says it’s like having a superpower, which makes a lot of sense when you think about how her tracks always have that unique Furtado twist.

Since ‘The Ride,’ Furtado’s kept busy with some killer collabs, like “Eat Your Man” with Dom Dolla and “Keep Going Up” alongside Justin Timberlake and Timbaland. Plus, she’s dropped a new Spanish track, “Gala Y Dalí,” reuniting with Juanes, which is pretty cool considering their history goes way back to “Fotografía” from 2002. This new song’s got a bit of nostalgia packed in, referencing their past work and even getting recorded in the same studio as “Te Busque.”

It’s not just the music that’s got people talking; it’s Furtado’s approach to her ADHD diagnosis. Instead of it being something that hinders, she’s found it to be a major boost to her creative process. In her words, the studio is where her brain really clicks into gear, making her ADHD an asset rather than anything else.

So, with this mix of old vibes and new sounds, plus a fresh perspective on what it means to create music with ADHD, Furtado’s upcoming album is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing releases on the horizon. Can’t wait to see how she’s going to shake things up this time.
